A Post-doctoral fellow for 1 year (extendable once) in computational mineral physics (modeling disclinations in olivine) is opening at UMET, University of Lille, France

We invite applications for a post-doctoral research position to carry out numerical modeling of disclination-mediated plasticity in olivine. The project aims to elucidate the role of disclinations in the grain boundary mobility in olivine. The models will use a field theory of crystal defects (dislocations and disclinations) at nanoscale.

 

A Materials Science or solid state mechanics profile with strong knowledge on the fundamental mechanisms of plastic deformation and dislocation theory and with experience in scientific programming is required. Previous experience with numerical simulations (preferably Finite Elements methods) will be appreciated.

 

The project is supported by the ERC-funded project RheoMan “Multiscale modeling of the rheology of the mantle”. The appointment is funded for one year but can be extended to a second one. It is scheduled on september 2013.
