X-ray diffraction

The Molecular and Therapeutic Materials team is equipped with two X-ray diffractometers for both transmission and reflection measurements: EQUINOX 5000 (Thermofischer) and X'PERT PRO (Malvern Panalytical).

The X'PERT have a copper X-ray tube and a linear detector. Its acquisition range in 2θ is between 5 and 100°. A hybrid monochromator can be adapted to select the copper kα1 line (λ = 0.15406 nm), and improve the resolution. The diffractometer can be configured for both capillary and platelet analyzes. An Anton Paar TTK 450 chamber is used to analyze the behavior of platelet materials between -150 and 400 ° C. Capillary experiments can be performed from room temperature up to 300° C using a Huber HTC 9634 furnace. The analyzes thus carried out make it possible to identify and quantify the different phases present within a sample, determine the lattice parameters of the compounds studied, their crystallite sizes and micro-deformation rate, as well as the in-situ temperature evolution of these parameters.

The EQUINOX 5000 is a high-resolution diffractometer with a copper tube and a curved detector whose acquisition is done over a range of 2θ of 120°. It is equipped with a reversible double crystals graphite/germanium monochromator allowing analyzes to be more resolute, or to higher photon flux. An Oxford chamber allows analyzes on capillary at temperatures ranging between -180 and 200°C, and an Anton Paar TTK 450 chamber is used for platelet analyzes between -150 to 450°C. It can be used for phase identification, and structural analyzes previously described, but also for crystallographic structure resolution.
